At the Airport: My 1st Flight EVER

We arrived at the air port almost an hour earlier than we had to be here. But that helped me to acclimate to a new environment. I was worried about getting through security and for some reason I really thought that they would tear apart my suitcase, but they didn't. It was actually a very quick process. We ended up sitting for an hour before boarding our first flight to Dulles International Airport in Washington DC. Which is where I currently am writing this. We were originally supposed to leave for Frankfurt, Germany within the hour of landing, however found out, while I was waiting for my bag that was green tagged, that our next flight was delayed by an hour and a half. So, here I am writing about my first flight experience.

Let me say, that I am very thankful for my professors and friends that I have made. I was really anxious to ride in a plane for the first time. I was reassured multiple times that all would be well, and they were right. All was well, besides the slight turbulence at take off. Besides feeling like I was a very jerky boat, once we surpassed the clouds, it was smooth sailing. Thank the heavens a professor was sitting behind me, because during this weird take off, he tapped me on the shoulder and asked how I was doing. After, reporting that I felt very uneasy, he quickly reassured me and told me that it is not normally that bad, that this was a really bumpy flight. Landing was fairly smooth and uneventful, and I think that I actually preferred it over the take off. Maybe the pilot just needed to warm up? Who knows.

Overall, I will say that my experience was mediocre, and to someone who is questioning a traveling because of having to fly, I would recommend facing that fear. The destination is worthwhile. As, I sit here and reflect, I am thankful for this opportunity, realizing that many people don't come close to an opportunity as great as this. And while I am already tired, and already missing my family, friends and especially my dog, I know that in a few short weeks, I will be home reflecting on this experience. Here's to  sitting here for another hour and a half and people watching!
